Texas driver responsibility program - the "points system"

     Method of the System - When a person accumulates 6 total points on his or her driving record over a three year period, they will then owe the State a surcharge payment of $100 for the following three years.  This payment must be made for the privilege to drive in Texas.  Each additional point over the 6 point mark is an additional $25 dollars owed to the State of Texas for a three year period.
    Points accumulated will affect a driver for a total of three years after the conviction date.
Possible Suspensions:
  1. Defaulting on Surcharge Payments - If you have unpaid or pastdue surcharges owed to the state of Texas, your license is technically invalid.
  2. Habitual Violator - A person is considered a habitual violator if they have been convicted of 4 or more moving violations in a one year period OR 7 or more violations in a two year period.
  3. Omni Based Violations - If your license expires and you have outstanding violations in the FTA / Omni system, your license is technically considered invalid.
